The Poem Inside
by Susan Rogers
The poem
inside the orange
peals its bright
tang into my
mouth of awareness
singing full
sweet sensation
into the juice
of every section
of me, coursing
sunfire and
music into
every vein
every seed
filling the pulp
of empty,
unengaged space
with intention
with the alchemy
of creation,
the momentary
verve
of pure vibration.
The poem inside
the orange
is written
in the orange
before I can hold
the orange,
in my hand
or taste its
flash of light
upon my tongue
before the orange
even becomes
orange.
It sounds
deeply in that place
where all sound
originates,
pealing
away the rind
of things
into their essential
pattern, pealing
into bells and bells
of recombinant song
that flood
our universe
with harmony,
poetry,
waves
upon waves
of being.
